I have a great fondness for Kingcombe. Years ago, when the farm was put up for auction, there was a great flurry of activity as Dorset Wildlife Trust tried to raise funds for the purchase of most of the land. They were successful and this fabulous site has been saved for all to enjoy. I own £25 worth of it by the way!
From Kingcombe we visit two sites - the Kingcombe reserve itself and the nearby Powerstock Common. For the latter we meet at the site and retire to Kingcombe later in the day. For the full Kingcombe days we start with coffee and a chat, then off to explore the fungi rich pastures and fields. Then it is back to the centre for lunch, then a final search while I lay out our finds of the morning, complete with (most of) their names. I then talk through all that we have found. The day is rounded off with a bit of a fry up and some of the superb Kingcombe cakes.
