I very much hope you will be able to come along on one of my forays this year. They range from simple walks arranged by people such as Somerset Council Countryside service and Holton Lee; day forays with lots of tea and cake at Kingcombe; and right on through to the full River Cottage treatment with a magnificent, and very late, lunch. There is even a residential course at Kingcombe where you will really be able to get your teeth into the subject. The links on the left will give more information on what to look forward to.
There are two important things I must mention about my fungus forays.
First of all no amount of searching is going to be successful if the fungi just aren’t there. I have been very lucky with only two of my hundreds of forays over the years coming up pretty empty handed. These were both in November after frosts and I have learnt my lesson. Still, some forays are more successful than others and we don’t come back with baskets completely full of interesting fungi every time.
The second point is that, while I am very keen to find edible species I really don’t care if I go back to the kitchen empty handed. The fungi are so interesting and beautiful that edibility is very much a secondary concern.
Below is a summary of the forays and events this year. I have included my seashore forays and lecture dates as well. For more details please contact the organisation concerned through the links provided.
If there are any good finds or photos on the day I will post them on the appropriate page
